During my senior year of High School I had the opportunity to take AP Art and the experience was so encouraging. I produced a cohesive body of work I was proud of and the process convinced me to pursue the arts in college. So what did I make!?
In 2009 the AP Art portfolio was a little different. Instead of a “Sustained Investigation” and “Selected Works” you had to complete a “Breadth” and “Concentration.” The Breadth section was to show off your artistic skills and was supposed to include 12 pieces done in different materials and styles. The Concentration section was an additional 12 pieces exploring an idea (the hub and spoke model you are discouraged from doing now).
Breadth
Concentration
My concentration theme was something like “Showing emotion through the human figure” and you can see how I really loved drawing on toned paper. It is easy to look back critically and as an AP teacher now there are many things I would recommend against! But the experience was incredibly rewarding and I was proud to earn a 5 on my portfolio.
